PTF增稠劑是丙烯酸酯類共聚物。這類增稠劑在低PH值時也可以溶于水并增稠，而在高PH值時能在水中溶解且顯示出較強的增粘增稠性能。 PTF增稠劑是通過丙烯酸酯單體自由基聚合得到的具有羧基官能團的聚合物，具有良好的增稠功能，長時間存放穩定性好，不返稀。 PTF聚丙烯酸類增稠劑其增稠機理是增稠劑溶于水中，通過羧酸根離子的同性靜電斥力，分子鏈由螺旋狀伸展為棒狀，從而提高了水相的黏度。另外它還通過在乳膠粒與顏料之間架橋形成網狀結構，增加了體系的黏度。
